Common questions
How does the immune system affect fertility?
The immune system must tolerate the embryo — which carries foreign (paternal) DNA — for implantation to succeed. When the immune system is dysregulated, it can attack sperm, prevent implantation, or reject an early pregnancy. This is an underrecognized but highly treatable cause of infertility.
I have Hashimoto's — does that affect my fertility?
Yes. Thyroid antibodies are associated with reduced fertility, higher miscarriage rates, and poorer IVF outcomes — even when thyroid hormone levels are normal. Reducing antibody levels through immune modulation is an important part of fertility optimization for Hashimoto's patients.
Can I conceive naturally with autoimmune infertility?
Many patients with autoimmune factors do conceive naturally — especially when the immune dysregulation is addressed. For others, assisted reproduction is needed, but addressing the immune picture significantly improves outcomes.
